I shoot a rifle that's 63" long overall. I know what you mean about tickling the rafters with a work rod when loading.
And even here in PA, people at the range aren't used to seeing flintlocks often, and even less often to see long rifles. In the state where many schools of long rifles once thrived, you'd think that wouldn't be the case, but it is.
