Maybe you can do test comparison shooting whatever standard load/bullet you like (Remington Core-Lokt/Winchester PowerPoint/Federal, etc.) vs the PPU into something like some phone books. Then see how they compare in penetration, expansion and retained weight. If the PPU compares favorably, it would seem likely it should fare well on game. Frankly though, one would think that a 170 gr 30-30 cup and core bullet should do well on game unless it were just ridiculously thin jacketed and super soft lead. And that also might be another sanity check you could do. Pull a few bullets and cut/section them to examine the jacket thickness and maybe do a hardness check of the lead and compare to a core-lokt or power point bullet. I only suggest all this because no one as of yet chimed in with experience on game performance. If all that seems too much trouble, I'd just go shoot a deer with it and find out that way.
