Had a pot roast cooking in the dutch oven and decided I needed some dessert. Decided pie sounded good so I grabbed a pumpkin from the garden and started baking it. The variety that I grew were "dual purpose" but since lots of folks say you can't make a pie from a jack-o-lantern pumpkin I gave mine a nudge and used heavy cream instead of milk. I also spread the puree on a cookie sheet and baked it a second time to caramelize it a bit more and decrease the amount of moisture as it was far too watery.

Then I noticed a bunch of plums that a friend gave me and started chopping them.

Threw together a couple crusts, poured the filling in and stuck them in the oven.

The pumpkin pie was very good and much less dense than the crap from a can. The plum pie had a beautiful red color and I had I not known what it was I may have guessed that it was a cherry/berry pie. My girlfriend said we should do the pumpkin again for Thanksgiving, luckily I had enough puree for a second pie and it's in the freezer now.

Time to add a second sample to my belly.
