They really got lucky. Not a lot of ways to a bears brain from the front. He could have easily ended up with a bear blind in one eye, but very much alive. I'm surprised the arrow didn't deflect.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.
