Even though I believe that the cat was justified in attacking that idiot, in a misguided attempt to shut his annoying azz up, I would still have, without malice OR conscious thought, killed it.
That is where you and I differ, I would be very pleased to deliberately kill the bastard if it did that to me or mine.
And if the mongrel hurt either my wife or my daughter it would suffer in the dying as well.
