Outpouring from NM Sportsmen Groups and Our Members Killed Game Protection Fund Raid!
YOU did it! Thanks to all our members - and the members and leadership of many other NM Sportsmens’ groups like Trout Unlimited, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, Council of Guides & Outfitters, Dona Ana Consolidated Sportsmen, and many others - who contacted their legislators this week, House Bill 6 was amended today in the House Appropriations Finance Committee to remove the $4 million raid on the Game Protection Fund that would have been a huge blow to the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.
This sportsmen-unfriendly provision was stripped from House Bill 6 because of YOUR contacts and constant pressure on the legislative body on both sides of the aisle.
House Bill 6 will go to the floor Monday morning but we do not expect any other appropriations that attempt to raid sportsmen dollars from NMDGF.
We would especially like to thank Representatives Matthew McQueen (D, District 50), Nathan Small (D, District 36), Bill Rehm (R, District 31) and Speaker Brian Egolf (D, District 47) for their leadership on this issue!
