My gunsmith is a .404 J aficionado and has built more than a few, including one for himself. I had admired his rifle a while back and decided that it was a cartridge that I wanted to try. I called Roy and talked with him about it. He was enthusiastic about making one for me and he said that he had .404 blank in the shop that we could use.

I visited his shop and we spent some time discussing it. It had to be a rifle that I could carry and use in the field, so that pretty much dictated the barrel contour and the H-S Precision stock. In addition to being drilled and tapped for scope mounts, It had to have a good set of express sights. I also specified the trigger and three-position safety. Fortunately, he has built enough rifles for me that he pretty much knew what I would like in terms of the finished product.

Some days it takes most of the day for me to do practically nothing...
