If your traps are out of sight there is no harm is checking in the evening.
I have never seen a coyote or fox try to chew above or below the jaw.
Coon will chew below if the circulation is cut off. That doesn't seem to be a problem with laminated traps.
However they will twist out, so important to use a couple swivels and keep the trap clear of obstructions they can climb or get hung up in.
