A 40mm objective scope in medium rings will have your cheek pretty far off the stock on a Marlin 1895. Their stock design is made for shooting open sights. Only a scope with an objective size of 32-33mm or less in low to extra low rings will get you close to the proper cheek weld for this rifle. I would suggest a 2-7x32 or smaller scope.
