Such examples are around.

The .275 bore Rigby that Ruark purchased and was given to the Selbys, had a series of holes drilled in the left wall
that seem to correspond with the type of uncommonly seen side mount you are referring to...suggesting Mr.Bell
at some point had such a scope mount.

My understanding is the rifle did not have a scope and mount when it was gifted to the Selby family and that Ruark
became the next owner upon Mrs Bell putting the rifle (from the estate of her late husband) up for sale through
Westley Richards.

The very different scope mount one sees in images of that rifle, was fitted by Robert Triebel in Nairobi.
