I've had a Gen 1 5R milspec .308 with 24 inch barrel for more than 10 years now.
Like someone said above, they seem to be throated long and mine doesn't like many factory loads. Most factory loads are in the 1"-1.25" range. But I've killed several deer with it shooting 1.25" with 180 gr federal fusion loads.
My handloads, mostly with 168 Nosler Ballistic Tips and Hornady Amax have been tack drivers averaging 1 inch at 200 yards. But I load them to 2.810" OAL.
I currently have mine in a Magpul Hunter stock and like it better than the stock it came in.
