AussieSteve,put quite a few full power loads (500gr.)through a mates 458 win mag in a ruger no. 1.Shooting through the window spotlighting one night.Honestly found my 30-06 ruger with that godawful synthetic stock to be less pleasureable.You're dead right about the heavy push part vs. the hammer blow that small bore magnums give your shoulder.For what it's worth i loved that rifle and also there's nothing wrong with owning a big bore rifle for no apparent reason,about to do it myself!
