The 6mm was apparently conceived as a short action cartridge by Remington: I have a first year of production Model 700 and it has the short receiver. Made me mad: I always had to single-load my favorite spitzer varmint bullet, the 85 gr. Sierra, because it wouldn't fit in the magazine when seated just shy of the lands, as I wanted it. Those same cartridges were just shy of fitting the magazine in my pard's Ruger Varminter, as well.
