Definitely not the same bullet. I used the TBBC for years on stuff that didn't need a controlled expansion bullet. I was a kid who did not know any better. :p

The CL-Ultra definitely hits with a lot more 'whack' than the TBBC. Which is exactly what you'd expect from a simple bonded bullet when compared to a true controlled expansion bullet. Like the pic above shows the Bear Claw has a solid shank whereas the CLU is a tapered core.

I get the swat factor of a cup and core and more penetration than I need on deer and bear. It is a fine bullet. But it isn't the kind of bullet designed to shoot lengthwise thru a moose with a .243... that's just not what it was intended to do. But for what 'I' do it has turned out to be the perfect blend of hard hitting but not throwing away bullet integrity. My brother and I have switched entirely to the Ultra. It is all we hunt with now.

Hope this helps.

Smellin' a lot of 'if' coming off this plan.
