I bought one of the flat top 44 mags that Ruger issued, same frame. My wife has the 357 and they look identical apart from the barrel bore.
Both my wife and I really enjoy shooting the 44 mag, I think it's a hoot to shoot. I have never seen my wife grin so wide as the first time she shot it! I can understand what some say about the grips having sharper checkering but I have never found it to be a problem.
I don't feel the need for a 44 special but I understand those who do, I love the revolver in 44 mag. The frame is more comfortable to me than either the superblackhawk or the redhawk.
