Im one of the lazy ones, I buy the buffalo bore or Beartooth LBTs and fill a pan with water and use a torch to soften the amount needed. With the 300s (.45) I usually leave the first 1/3 exposed to soften. You will kill/slump a few but fortunelty the learning curve was short, you will see a real small glaze form about 1 second before you loose the slug. Im inclined to stick with a regular hard cast for big stuff but the softs are very impressive on our small blacktail (125lbs is huge) coyotes and other small furry stuff that the hardcast tends to pencil through.
