No matter how you do it, building a custom rifle around a military Mauser action will end up costing your more $$, more time, and more aggrivation than if you just buy a commercial rifle or build around a Rem/Rug/Win commercial action.
For me, building a custom rifle on a military Mauser action is a fun project, but never cost effective. If you feel strongly about a Mauser action, the 98 Husqvarnas that were built by FN in the late 1940 thru early/mid 1950s seem to be a pretty good buy these days. Must nicer actions, fit and finish wise, then any Interarms Mark X or more recent Yugoslav Mauser actions that I've seen.

I said it is a goal of mine. Maybe when I retire. Plenty of time to design my rifle. Till then I will use my 30-06 semi auto. I always wanted to build a rifle off a mauser. Too much money and time for me though.
