Looking for opinions from anyone who has used either.

Got it in my mind to get a large exit pupil binoc and do not want to spend much more than a hundred bucks - $125 or so tops. This will be a stick in the car rig and just look around at stuff at the range.

Got a Leica 8X42 and it puts everything else to shame but I have this fear of it walking away if I leave it in my range box while I'm downrange or otherwise distracted.

Always have been impressed with Nikon optics even on their lower end stuff. Was about to order the Nikon, a certain website has them at a blow out price, but then I looked at the Leupold 8X50 in Cabelas the other day and was impressed. Have never seen the Nikon 7X50, local stores only have the 10X50 or 12X50 which is too much power, but they seem pretty good.

The Leupold is their BX-1 which I gather is analogous to the VX-1 scopes with fully multicoated lenses. Both binoculars have same-same field of view, similar size and weight, are both waterproof, rubber armored, etc. Only difference is the slightly higher magnification of the Leupold, exit pupils will be just over 7mm vs. 6.25 but either one of those meets my criteria.

Anybody know any pressing reason one will be lots better than the other?

Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery.
Hit the target, all else is twaddle!
