I have an original WWI Colt 1911 U.S. Property made in 1918. Finish is 85% and gun is 100% original and never has been arsenal rebuilt. I am a WWII collector and I understand the value of this gun but I was hoping someone could tell me how I could trace the guns history. My friend that is a dealer bought it from an older gentleman that claimed either his father or grandfather (i cant remember) used it in WWI and it has been in the family until now. I have it displayed in a locked box on my wall and thought if I could trace who or what branch or unit it was issued to during the war would be cool. I am under the impression a Colt factory letter does not provide this information. Any suggestions appreciated

If the world didnt suck we would all fall off!
