The very first deer rifle I bought in 1965 was a pre '64 model 100 in .284 caliber. It was really accurate with my handloads of 130 grain Speer and IMR-4350 powder, with which I killed my first and second longest range deer to date. Unfortunately, I traded it for something I thought I had to have back in the late '70s.
