Unfortunate. I never could understand why rifles with moderate recoil such as the 250 and 300 Savage, or the .30-30, 35 calibers in the Marlin 336 needed recoil pads. They're generally used in cold weather by someone wearing layers of clothing, firing in field positions and only one or two rounds at that. Pad not needed.
As a teen, I had a recoil pad fitted to a new FN Mauser Deluxe, .30-06, discarding the original plastic, heavily designed buttplate. I've regretted it ever since. The rifle is now a collectible but take off 40% because the idiot who owned it was then afraid of recoil.

Hold out for what you want, they're out there but rarely cheap.
