was over at Sportsman Whorehouse and was shopping around for new things to play with...they had ONE box of the fairly new product from Hornady... for the 22 Win Mag..

although recently I have found that even premium 22 Mag ammo is not that accurate, when compared to a Handloaded 223 or 204 round, with a velocity down around 22 Win Mag or even 17 HMR velocities...

however, I saw this box of their new 22 WMR, loaded with a 45 grain FTX bullet in a Hollow Point..MV in a rifle is 1700 fps...although they advertise the powder being used is made to be optimized in a handgun with an MV of just 1000 fps..

the bullet is designed to overcome the problem with a HP, hitting clothing, clogging up the HP and slowing down its penetration...

however this hollow point has an FTX polymer tip inserted down flush in the HP, designed to overcome this problem....

weather and work schedule permitting, I plan to get out and test it in the Ruger 77/22Mag...

although designed for "Critical Defense", I am curious to see its performance in the field...

another nice thing was this ammo was priced no more than a plain old Hornady 22 Mag with the standard 40 grain FMJ or HP...$12.00 a box...

if this pans out and has acceptable accuracy in the rifles, I can look at my old favorite in a new light...so far it seems that this technology or feature is not being offered in a 17 HMR...

I'll keep the forum posted of the results, positive or negative... but I am glad to see Hornady's marketing dept in putting on their thinking caps, and their marketing dept is listen to the public...
