I've got a couple of pads on rifles made from Brownell's so called 1/2 inch foam pads. Be warned they are really only 3/8ths of an inch. Glued together, they make a 1 oz., 1 inch recoil pad. Best way to improve the balance and save even more weight on a light rifle I know of.
Their drawbacks are two. They need to be glued on and they can be worn down with heavy use. Mine are still doing fine however. E
