The more magnification you have at an exit pupil size your eyes can use, the further you will see in bad light, period.
The catch here is "an exit pupil size your eyes can use."
What happens is that as we age, as a rule, we have less ability to see in or handle low light conditions. But it does vary between individuals.
How you can tell is if you can adjust your scope to produce a 7mm exit pupil and still see something with it after legal shooting hours. If the scope "quits," it isn't the scope. It's your eyes.
Some of us can see all the way until the end of legal shooting hours on any day with the scope set for at least a 5mm exit pupil. Some of us can only do so on bright clear days, in open country. And some cannot do even that. It depends on how bright the day and the evening are and how much low light ability your eyes have. E
