We bought a foreclosure where the owner would just dump bags of food out and feed 18 dogs in the upstairs to our house. After compleatly gutting it down to joists and studs, refinishing it, and living in it for 2 years we are still fighting mice...
A cat was a great addition to it. Its even comical now when he catches one and sits there "playing" with it. Hence why we named him Sako!
