The best advice I have ever hear about judging bear has been, "if it acts like a fat man at the buffet, its a shooter". I watched a 6'9" black bear at over 800 yards for about 15 minutes, and that is exactly how he acted. He would lay down and graze the spring grass, get up, move and lay back down. I just knew he was big.
