Hmm, my Whelen scoped weighs 7.25 lbs. I have some open sight 9,3x62's that weigh in at 6.5 lbs. None of been a problem.
Oddly enough, the most painful rifle I ever fired was Ruger 77 in 9,3x62. The stock had no pitch, recoil was PAINFUL! Proper stock design is a must.
