Round barrel or octagon? Checked buttstock?

Best I can do is if it's got an octagon bbl, it's pre war, probably. It superseded the Model 29 and was itself superseded by the 29 B.

Neat old rifles and usually accurate, always fun to take out and shoot. Some say the 29 A was the best 22 pump Savage made. I like the 1903 myself but the 29 A is very good if you prefer a tube magazine.
