Got permission to shoot a new ranch and finally we had a 63 degree day. Of course the 6 inches of snow from two days before left the ground a muddy mess so it was all about walking and lying on a tarp but then only after finding a relatively dry spot. You can't see the town from a road, the town is enormous, and I saw no evidence of other hunters. Dumb dogs, great shooting.

This town has a new sheriff:

My day ended early when I had a round that wouldn't chamber. Found mud on the case when I ejected it. Dumped all the rounds out of my coat pocket and found mud in my pocket - don't know how that happened. Was able to clean the mud from my chamber but wasn't able to clear the action and wasn't about to shoot with grit on the action lugs.

Got home and pulled the VSSF from the stock and washed the stock in the sink, hosed out the action with WD40, cleaned it all up, oiled it, and put it back together. Even my binoculars needed a soap and water scrub - what a mess but it sure was fun and I plan to do it again next good day.

Now if I could only get someone to spot for me. smile
