Marlin made 336s in 44 mag for a handful of years back in the 60s. They had a strange carrier arrangement using a long cartridge stop and a spring loaded cartridge leveler. Some were great rifles while many were plagued with feeding issues so the were discontinued and the 1894 was debuted. I have rebarreled several 1894s with 1/20" twist barrels for shooting heavy cast bullets. The carriers and timing can also be massaged to allow feeding of longer heavier bullets.
