I have four 527s, and none of them have ever scratched brass.

The "backwards" safety is no big deal, any normal person can adapt to it easily. If you're a little slow-witted, like Varmintguy, it might cause a headache, though.

Think of it like using a M94 Winchester, which you have to cock the hammer on, to shoot. Same motion, same direction. See? easily overcome with a minor amount of thought processes.
