FWIW...

I've installed two HS Precision stocks on Rem. 700s, one L/A 25.06 and one S/A 6mm Rem. Both were drop in fits, no fitting required. That said, the extra step of "skim bedding" is probably a good idea, particularly with regard to firmly positioning the recoil lug with the stock.

On the 25.06 I went the extra step of replacing the bottom metal with one from Williams. IMHO, the original Remington one is a piece of junk, vastly inferior to the Williams, which includes an Oberndorf release. They actually make 'em to specifically fit the HS stocks. Can be order "white" or blued. I ordered mine blued (meaning matte black), and it perfectly matched the rebluing of the rest of the rifle I'd had done a couple months earlier.
