It smacks of a superiority complex more than just a little in my opinion. I've had run-ins with a few granola crunchers, and I used to have a similar attitude. But lately more often than not, pleasant exchanges. Like last year on my way out with a packful of meat, I passed several folks who said hello and congratulated me on my success. My hunt topped out at 11,000 feet, but they were headed to the peak at 14K, and they were most definitely not hunters.

Or last weekend when my son and I were fishing at an alpine lake along the front range several miles form the trailhead. We saw more than a few people, including some trail runners who barely paused on the steep grade up to 12K.

My hat is off to those guys, no way I could keep up.

I think the tide is turning, as far as people's attitudes toward hunters. Especially hunters with a backpack, a few miles in. People seem to respect that style of hunting. And more and more, people seem to think getting your own free-range organic meat is a good thing.

A wise man is frequently humbled.
