I recently bought a new (to me) rifle and in looking to scope it, I keep coming back to Redfield USA scopes on ebay. I gues I have a thing for the 2-7 or 3-9 accurange scopes.

I begin to wonder though- are the optics in the current Chinese scopes better than these old scopes? I was recently at a sporting goods store and compared a Redfield Revenge, a Nikon prostaff, a Weaver Kaspa and a Vortex crossfire. All were around 3-9x40. There was very little difference in any of them. The main difference was in W/E adjustment knobs. Some felt like the clicks were plastic on plastic or metal on plastic. I know most of these if not all of them are from "lesser" pacific rim production (i.e., not Japanese). Would they still outperform the 70-80's Redfields?
