Gitxsan Angling Notice:

The Gitxsan First Nation issued a press release on July 10 that indicates sport fishers are being served notice of eviction from their territories, effective August 4, 2014.
The ministry is concerned about the eviction notice and senior ministry staff are working with the Gitxsan in an attempt to resolve their concerns.
The Province considers the licences of guides, resident anglers and non-resident anglers to be valid. There is the possibility that anglers operating in the Gitxsan Traditional Territory may encounter protests.
The Province encourages all anglers to remain safe and respectful on the water. We have asked the Gitxsan leadership to remind their members of the same, and ensure any protests remain peaceful.
All British Columbians have a constitutional right to peaceful protest and to express their point of view in a safe and legal way.
Anglers seeking direction on what to do if they encounter a protest, or who wish to report any confrontation should contact the local RCMP detachment.
