Our penal system is big business run amok at taxpayers' expense.
Got a better idea that's not illegal or unconstitutional?
That would be my preference. No punishment pe se, no system of organized cruelty, just remove them from society permanently.
Except I'd change things to make a serious, really serious shot at trying to keep the first timers from becoming graduates of crime college. Then toss them out of society on the 2nd offense.
