a long time ago, maybe on here, i read an article about some alaska guide who's wife also guided. The handgun of choice was a .357magnum loaded with 180grain full metal jacket bullets. Rather than one of the big boomers. The point being the 357 was easier to stay on target rather than the massive recoil kicking the gun up, and the fmj's would penetrate a bear's skull. I have never had to prove that, but it did make some sense to me, as the bear thing could be comparable to having to shoot through a truck door.
