I have gone to 5000 mile intervals.
However, no engine ever failed from too clean oil. Oil does not get burned up or wear out, it gets contaminated. Severe driving isn't necessarily on dusty roads ,etc. It can also be those short 1-2 mile trips that build up moisture in the oil.
I only put 5K or less a year on my Cummins Dodge and I feel it should at least get a change once a year. The drained oil goes to Walmart or Advance Auto for recycling.
Besides, if I didn't change oil but once every 7500 miles or so in my Tacoma, I wouldn't have bar oil for my chain saw.
