really it is not difficult to bob the barrel. just stay legal length plus some. hacksaw it then chuck up a brass screw in a drill smear it with lapping compound and lap the crown.
have had great success with the few I have done. picked up a 94 win that rode muzzle down in a pickup for 40 years and looked like he had used it to drive fence staples. only cut 3/4 inch and recrowned. shoots 1 inch at 100. but it is a 32-40 so that is to be expected.
