You mentioned driving - a cross draw holster of 1911 size will go almost horizontal when sitting. It's almost a certainty that, without a thumb break, a cross draw 1911 will eventually end up on the floor.
I don't normally do too much froggin' around in the cab to think my pistol's gonna get away....
