They aren't known as water lovers, but they will retrieve from water if trained. My male has retrieved ducks for me at 6 degrees, but they aren't Chessies!
They are, however, better at shedding than water retrieves . That's the price you pay for that lovely spaniel coat. If you keep them outside most of the time, the shedding comes only twice a year. Keep them in the house, like most of us do, and they shed quite a bit.
Thanks for the info! I really like the look of the breed and am in the market for a pup. That said, the shedding would be a deal breaker for my wife. Good luck with the litter!
