Last march my friend was passing another car in his T-100 and decided to ventilate his oil pan with the number 2 rod. I wasn't home yet but rumor has it the rod shot thru the pan, taking a chunk of the block and is in a ditch somewhere. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> 112k on the truck. So he gets a motor from a used parts place and installs it.
So last night we are out at dinner and heading to a local pub to meet a friend. Truck shuts down completly. He figgers the battery is dead or alternator. I figured the 'puter died (kinda) or motor smoked. The truck went down like a light swithch. Key on and the volt meter was well in the green, the starter would fire but could not turn the motor and didn't get the rrrrrr like a weak battery. As it happened so quick I figgered the alternator was fine.
Well today at work (we work at the same place) he gets the call ---- engine seized. I felt some vindication as I guessed it correctly to our ride last night but felt bad it was his 2nd Toyota motor in 6 months he smoked and 3rd over all if you count a jet ski this summer. (I don't let him drive my stuff, he is careful and all - just jinxed)
So this guy is VERY anal about maintance and I tend to let it slide... I have had probs but not 2 motors lunched in 6 months. Poor bastid... He is a toyota nut too, I own one and owned 3 - generaly good luck buit he seems to have probs with Toy trucks. Gotta be the only guy.....
I want him to rebuild this one as the block is likely good. Mostly because I get a kick outta trying new things and rebuilding a T100 would be interesting. I bet him I could have the motor out in 2 days and then when the machining and rebuild was done - back in in 2 days, no manual but he declined. I aint no super mechanic but I like the smell of grease and messing about under the hood. Unfortunately he is prob gonna sell the truck, lunched and get a new one... bummer for me I guess.
