I think I just snagged a very nice Model 99T trilled and tapped at the factory in 300 Savage.

How do I best scope this? Bases from whom? Or, Vintage Pachmayr mount or?

If in fact it is a 99T the factory most probably did not drill and tap for scope. Earliest factory drill and tap was in early 50's on EG's and R's RS's. Tom

99Ts are a pre-WW2 style, so the only factory d&t hole in it would be the two (2) holes on the tang.

If it has been d&t on the top of the receiver for the mid-1950s standard four (4) hole pattern, either a Leupold/Redfield turn-in one-piece base or Weaver two-piece bases would work. The Leupold Detacho-Mount bases are also a good choice.

I like the Leupold 2-7x33 in whatever flavor moves you. I prefer VX2, but own them in VX1, VX-II, VX-I, Rifleman, and Vari-X IIc.

It is a 99F, in VGC. My mistake. I looked everywhere but the barrel...

195X make with brass counter.

Weaver bases, Warne rings, VX-2 Leupold 2-7x33 or a VX-1 2-7x33 shotgun scope with a heavy duplex.

Most of mine wear modern Weaver 2 piece bases. I'd have to say the one piece Leupold base is higher quality though since a few guys on the campfire have had new Weavers that weren't to spec and couldn't get the scope adjusted enough.

I also have a number of 99's with vintage Redfield or other 1 piece bases, and they are perfectly fine. Make sure you get one that fits the standard d&t for Savage 99's, there are a couple versions with special spacing that came out before Savage offered a lot of factory d&t 99's.

Leupold VX-I's for the most part for scope, lately I've been doing the 2-7x33's.

Hard to beat that exact combo for this application.

In Weaver-style bases, I really prefer the Tasco one-piece base that they made back in the 1970s/1980s, but hesitate to recommend them because they are a Tasco product and Tasco is, mostly, a bottom feeder.
