yawn .............. soccor the most popular sport in the world
all ya need is a field(grass or dirt it don't matter) a ball(some places a human head will suffice) and a bunch of people running around kicking at the ball and maybe 4 sticks stuck in the ground to mark the goal yay whoopee.......................
and it drags on for hours
oh boy the score was 1-0
here in America
if ya cant make the cut for other sports or just plain ole suck at other sports
you can always make the soccor team...................... bwahahahahahahahahaaa!!!!!
I hope those Nazi bishes lose..........
either way while the game is on I will be watching some paint dry in my basement

Many years ago when I was a college student, the university put together a field day where all the teams went at one another in a wide array of run, throw, shoot, pitch, hit competitions. The soccer team kicked ass.

USA looked better against China than they had looked in the previous three matches, mostly due to more aggressive attack defense at midfield, quicker and more precise passing, and running pressure on goal. Even though they did not score high, they did generate many opportunities. As usual, the back line was really solid. I think that the change in starting lineup - in part forced by 2 suspensions - gave good opportunity for some aggressive and talented subs to make a mark, and they did. I hope that any decision to start "regulars" against Germany does not ruin the previous effect.
Germany is a strong/tough outfit and know how to foul without getting called, and am thinking that they will not wear down by late match as much as previous USA opponents have done. Their one weakness may be lack of speed in their back four and the USA may be able to exploit that with wide runs and quick/precise passing.
It should be a good match. No predictions here.
BTW, some otherwise solid and sensible folks here seem to like to put down soccer. To each his own. There are some sports that interest me little. But, would say that, overall, many folks who deride soccer seem to have little or no understanding of the fine points and strategies of the game and lack the appreciation that can come with the above. I hesitate to suspect that any of our Campfire posters are among those uninformed/unappreciative.

The usual guys that neither understand the game nor are capable of playing it have checked in. At least show your national pride and cheer for the USA.

Paul- i think that back line is a huge part of Solo's 450 minutes (or so) of shut out!

Paul- i think that back line is a huge part of Solo's 450 minutes (or so) of shut out! I agree with you - she is very good and seems to be worth the publicity headaches for team USA. That back four work with her so well - contributes a lot to her remarkable record. The derogatory comments above by renegade50 are interesting in their intensity, and 1minute points out factors that few "athletes" in other sports will recognize. For example, if you placed most NFL all-stars in the role of center midfielder and sent them out to run and work for 45 solid non-stop minutes on the USA womens' team, I believe they would be tongue-hanging, panting, drenched with sweat and oxygen-craving fools before the period were half finished. Doubtful? Try it.
