I'm using a RCBS roll pad to lube exterior, and lubing the inside of the necks individually, too time consuming.

Who's replaced the expander ball with carbide?

Could do a spray otherwise I guess....

Go.

I have used one for my 22 dies since they were available (all Redding) as I can use the same one in all of them (Hornet through Swift). Muddy

I use powdered mica on the necks, inside and out. There is a little kit from Frankford Arsenal that gives you a set of brushes, and a reservoir for dipping the cases.

[Linked Image]

You pour a couple tablespoons of mica in the reservoir and dip the necks in and then run the brush through the inside. There is enough dry mica left to lubricate the expander going through, but not enough to matter otherwise.

When I lube the inside of case necks I do so one of two ways...

1. Pull the spindle out and give it a shot of Amzoil Synthetic Spray Lube....since each case neck has to pass thru the same spot, its easier to lube that...

2. put a bore brush on a pistol rod, and spray that with the Amzoil Spray Lube and run it thru each case neck... pretty simple, plus cleans any residual gunk in there out at the same time...

other lube works great I am sure, but I use the Amzoil, strictly because a friend is a dealer and I do some loading for him, and his 17 Fireball, so he just gives me a can or two when I need it...

What I've been doing, is pour a drop of RCBS lube on the brush that's used to clean inside the necks. it works, but again time consuming doing each individual neck.

I use a baby food jar filled with #8 shot and put a tablespoon of graphite in it. Shake it up. Dip case mouths in it and size.

One shot case lube.

Tried it after reading about it here, won't go back to imperial and graphite again.

I now mostly use Redding bushing dies but for a few cartridges I still use the above tried and true method.

This but I feel the inside of the necks should be clean as well so I use a caliber specific brass/bronze brush in a variable speed drill to remove residue before seating. An alternative is using a Qtip with a small amount of Imperial wax too lightly apply to the inside neck surface after cleaning the inside of the necks.

My method also. When adding lube to the pad, I usually put a small dab in one corner of the pad and 'dip' the case mouth there. I find about every other case is often enough. I tumble after resizing so the lube gets removed that way.

NECO makes a very similar kit you can buy with steel beads and moly, works great if you're just neck-sizing.

I've got carbide sizer buttons for .30-06, .308, and .223.

I use Imperial on the outside of the case, below the shoulder.

Do you guys that lube inside the neck then later clean that lube out of the case neck before loading powder and bullet seating? If so, what is you method for getting the inside of the case neck clean?

Using pad to lube mouth doesn't require it, so, no, inside of neck isn't cleaned after. Lube is just enough to prevent stretch and excessive friction.

Since I'm using lube in and out, with no tumbler, after sizing all cases get a bath in warm/hot water,

But then the cases need to dry. I do need to condense steps and simplify.

One shot drys on it's own? How long till you can load powder?

Yep, when I start getting a little drag from the expander I do this. Keeping the expander nice and polished is also a good idea and limits the frequency of using anything on the inside of the necks.

Right after sizing and priming.

I use OneShot if full/partial resizing, Imperial neck lube if just neck sizing.

I just toss them in the tumbler to get all the lube off. Before I had a tumbler, I wiped the outside with a rag, set them up in a case block and used a Q-tip on the inside of the neck. It depends a bit on neck diameter but I can usually do a box of 20 with 1 or 2 Q-tips.

Long time ago, I tried Midway's spray lube, it worked but I wasn't overly impressed and went back to regular lube. I'd maybe try it again if I was loading hundreds at a time but I'm not so my system works for me.

I use the imperial dry neck lube stuff in the media then roll the case in my fingers with sizing wax. After I size I dump them in the tumbler. I'd tumble them anyway, I like them pretty.

Every time a buddy sticks a case in a die the first thing I ask them is if they were using that One Shot crap. So far I've been 100% right in my guesses.

When I stopped using the wax my stuck cases stopped. Interesting. Now I use the One Shot "crap".

If you can manage to stick a case using Imperial sizing wax then you're another special one. I haven't seen anyone else accomplish that.

I used to use wax on the case, and then graphite in the necks.

Now I use oneshot.

I like one shot. I spray at 45* angle from two sides. Let them sit for a few minutes. Then size, trim and brush out the necks with my brush in the drill. Clean out primer pockets and start loading.

One shot?

Only when I don't want to use a million different concoctions and steps to size a case.

If only there was like, a spray, that could do it all, just a one step process,

Like maybe one shot of some lube or something similar,

Sounds far-fetched at this point.

Maybe in the future?

I spray for bulk loading.

For precision loads, I prefer to clean the necks with a stainless brush in the drill press. It's pretty fast, and just leaves clean brass inside, so they don't stick.

I lube the necks of my rifle cases for a different reason than most of the rest of you. I started reloading on my own in 1970 after one of my Dad's friends started me out reloading at his house in the months before the 1968 hunting season. He was so meticulous that I picked up his methods of loading, he was into accuracy above all. I use graphite to lube the necks in the form of art graphite sticks. I peal off about 1/2 of an inch of the stick and insert it in the neck of the shell case and turn the brass in my hand and literally mark up the inside of the neck in a series of bands until I get most of the neck covered with graphite. Then I wipe all of it off that has gotten on the mouth of the case, this prevents it from getting on the lube pad. All of my dies up to .338's have carbide inside neck sizers buttons. Hornady makes them for RCBS dies and you can get .338 sizer buttons from Sinclair, I have never found any larger than that. After you lube the case with whatever you use for the outside, as you pass the case into the sizer die the inside of the neck will be polished as the carbide inside sizer is passed through. I wipe the lube off the outside of the case and leave the graphite on the inside of the neck. I have already chamfered the inside of the neck at 22.5 degrees the bullet seats very readily and very accurately. In effect you have polished the inside of the neck and seated the bullet in a very uniform manner. Which translates into a very uniform bullet pull as the case expands on firing, which means the harmonic wave that is imparted into the barrel is very uniform. I check the loaded round with an optical comparator, then I check for run in and run out with a mic, check for depth of primer seating with a mic set up for that as well. I will not get into all the steps, as some of y'all know me I get real anal about this. This method allows me sit down at my range bench and put all of them through the same hole at 100 and 200 yards, which translates into good long range accuracy. This helps me to shoot hogs at unethical distances and game animals out past 500 yards. I have used this method of lubing necks for 45 years in as small as .17 Remingtons through .50 BMG in virtually all temperatures ranges. I have had zero issues, makes the barrels a bit longer as a plus.
Good shooting,
Marcus.

I've tried every combination of lubing necks, pads, sprays, Imperial and even q-tips.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, works as well as a nylon brush dipped in fine graphite powder. I dip in graphite, tap off all excess, 2 passes in and out and size. I also have the Imperial dipper, but I don't like the graphite on the outside of the necks.
Another point to be made, polish your expanders, it makes a big difference and stops necks and shoulder stretching.
Bushings also work, but most have an expander anyway, so if you use it, it needs the above, even if it's only pushing the neck out by .002" or less.

Cheers.

I didn't see it mentioned, but Hornady One Shot is good stuff. Just make sure it dries a minute or so for the alcohol to evaporate off or you'll stick a case and feel like a dumb southerner...

Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!
