Can the GPS functions on either of those watches be set to display UTMs?

You would think that would be easy info to find, I'm guessing they probably don't.

I Googled "Garmin Owners Manuals" and got to a page with .pdf's of the owners manuals that you can download for the specific device. I checked a couple of the products that appeared to be watch type devices but wasn't able to find reference to the units of the coordinates. You might check the Garmin website to find the device you are interested in(hope I got this right))---

I have the Sunnto Ambit 2 and it will indeed do UTM and MGRS.

I really like the Suunto and it has been rock solid. I like the moves count way better than base camp as well.

The Garmin watches for military use have the option to select different coordinate systems including lat long, mgrs and utm. The one I was most familiar w.ith was more like a box on a band but I understand the newer model is more. Like a watch and has better battery life.

Thanks, I think I like the Suunto also, reviews have the gps much more reliable in the Suunto than the Garmin, which is surprising since Garmin is primarily a gps company.

That is one of the reasons I went Suunto as well. I read a lot of reviews that it liked to freeze up at the worst times.

You could use a Garmin Foretrex 401, it's barely bigger than a watch, and you can get them for under $200.
