Overall they work well. They are more in line with the 4200/6500 series than the Elite Tactical's like the HDMR's/ERS's or 1-8.5x's.
The turrets are kind of jinky. You just pull up to reset to zero. They pull up VERY easy and are not suitable for dialing so I've never done a legitimate tracking test, though they do move the correct amount per adjustments.
If using it on 1x you'll want the 2nd focal plane model. The illumination is neither bright enough for reliable daylight use, nor is the reticle designed such as to not need illumination.
As far as the BTR 2 reticle, it's fine. About as good as any of the "horseshoe reticles. The layout of the horizontal wire inside the circle isn't well thought out, as the first "tick" is at something like 1.3 mils and 2.5 or 2.6 or so to the inside of the circle. The width of the ticks on the vertical line are .3 and .8 mil or so. Again not thought out. Depends on what you're using it for, however I tend to find it annoying not having any decent way to hold for wind.
It may sound like I don't like the SMRS, but that's not true. Well maybe it is, but I prefer them to a whole bunch of other 1-6x's. 1-6x scopes that are "there" are severely lacking. They all either break (Vortex Razor, Leupold MK6), have sub par reticles (Khales, Bushnell) or lack daylight usable illumination (SWFA), or are not "dialable" (Khales).
Out of them all the SWFA 1-6x is the closest to having it, and only the lack of daylight bright illumination annoys me, however the reticle is quite good at 1x without it.
