Thinking about getting a .260 What are your thoughts for use as a deer/predator cartridge ?

Worked about the same as the 7mm-08 for me, concerning deer-sized game. And that is not a bad thing.

Bet those same bullets would work well on coyotes and such. Somebody here was using a 260 with the 123AMax for that role and the results were dramatic.

In my camp it has been superb on deer with 120 grain Ballistic Tips, 125 grain Partitions, and 129 grain Interlocks.

And concerning deer hunting, it is bringing basically 95% performance of the classic 130gr .270win loading, both in bullet weight and muzzle velocity, but with slightly better BC and about 20-25% less powder burned. Not a bad place to be.....

Okay now that we know it'll work on Elk, will it be sufficient for deer? LOL!

My son and I both shoot .260's. His is a Savage and mine is a T/C Encore. In my mind it's as close to the ideal whitetail cartridge as you can get. We both shoot 120 Nosler BT's and love their performance on deer.

It's essentially the SA cousin to the venerated 6.5x55 Swede.

Performance is pretty close, so one would think the .260 would whack about any animal the 6.5x55 has ever killed.

And that includes a bunch of stuff over the decades on several continents.

predators and varmints are no match.....

good one. I have shot quite a few deer over the years with various 140 gr bullets but have been starting to use lighter 120-130's. They all work great when you hit them right but I do like the flatter trajectory of the lighter slugs. Really like the 140's for heavier animals though.

I've selected the 127 LRX for everything in my 260s. It has worked perfectly on deer and coyotes from 150-500+ yards.

From what I've read, the LRX is a bit softer than the std. TSX/TTSX, designed to open at a slower speed. That should work great for the .260.

In my 26 Nosler, it shot pretty well, just not as accurate as the 120 TSX/TAC-X or the 120 E-Tip.

So, if it shoots good in your .260, I'd think it would be a great choice.

Covers a lot of bases, 90-140. Have had good luck with 120 TTSX until last year when nipples started snapping off in the mag box. I popped the rest out (little easier than I thought they should have come out) and now have the new Hammer Triple Shock Bullet, or a pile of schit.

When I had one I loaded the 100 TTSX over Benchmark. Very accurate and fast. But, honestly, performance wasn't much different on deer than the 80 grain .243, which by the way, is fantastic. That's what I'm using now for my smaller deer caliber since reducing the number of different calibers of rifles.

108 Scenars topped out at 3,100 and I'm at 2,946 with 120 TTSX. I'd guess someone is stepping on the 120's a lot harder than me.
