I am of urbanite and social disposition. People and crowded places I seek. I like my beds soft, my wife in reach, the ground under my feet paved and even and my food prepared for taste and optical pleasure. Dogs I abhorr.

My friends I hold dear. My friend FC, Follically Challenged here at the fire, is the ruddy, outdoors type. Mountains are to be climbed, food is to be hunted.

Planning a family vacation to Austria, he asked me to check out possibilities for him to climb around a mountain and hunt chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra). This request is set down here in precise and clear fashion, as is my custom, and was presented to me a bit more neanderthalish. But I disgress...

July 15th found me in hostile country.

The footing, treacherous.

Footing, continued.

The task? Ardenous.

This young male was spared, as he was of promising size and condition. this one was not.

[Linked Image]

You see, I had to make sure, this would work for my friend, FC, all the way to the end.

It will, rest assured. And that is, what friends are for.

Thanks for reading.

Carl, all you need now is a rifle with a fancy wood stock, to match the scenery grin

Looks like a wonderful experience!

Ready,

Many thanks for the scouting. It looks like the quarters will be largely agreeable. I did notice that you neglected to take pictures of the espresso maker, flat screen TV, and steam shower, but I'm sure they will be in good working order for our hunt.

I'm a bit worried about what kind of firepower will be required to down one of those Chupacabra Chupacabras. I've never shot a .470 Nitro Express, but I'm sure I can steel my nerves for the task. We'll be shooting solids (dipped in Holy Water), I presume?

Also, will our hunting credentials be sufficient to hunt in Austria? Just to make sure we're legal, I put out some feelers for a local guide, and was given the following recommendation...

So cool.....

The pictures of the 'sub standard' quarters should be in a travel brochure, as they certainly got my attention.

I still need to know the thread count of the sheets before I send deposits though.

Now you went and gone done it. You has hurt my feelers. I take excemption and am now seeking soothing and comfort in a Venti Latte Macchiato with Almond syrup and cinnamon sprinkle, something, I might add, sorely in ill supply up on the hill.

Excellent scenery, Carl! Thanks for posting. Gorgeous territory, for sure. Good work on the Chamois, and my sympathies for having to test drive that entire adventure for FC.

wink

Well, it looks like things finally got done getting in the way.

Joe (Follically Challenged) will be visiting me in about four weeks.

We will be packing up the frog to the roof and skate down to Austria under as much steam as the 2 cylinder engine will punch out of the 875 ccm vastness of its combustion void.

:-)

Good times ahead.

I believe there's still the better part of 750ml of Knob Creek in his cabinet from my '14 visit. I'd picture it being carried 'neath his dog, Tip's chin in a snazzy red wooden keg. However, Tip's no St. Bernard, and we won't be in Switzerland. There's protocol involved, I'm sure.

I'll also inspect to see if he has yet installed the Truck Nuts on his 825 cc Fiat Panda...

It's finally here - wheels up in a li'l over 2 hours. I brought an extra suitcase of cough silencers and butt-out tools to pass out to the locals.

Ready says he's got me set up with some funny-soundin' European cartridge called, "Three-Oh-Ate". I hope it's got sufficient oomph to azz-shoot a dink.

Joe is enroute and I will be picking him up in about five hours.

Last phone transmittion was a mite sketchy, but it was understood, he is traveling in style across the pond this time - having somehow secured an upgrade to "foist class".

Said, he wanted me to tell the 'fire...

Nothing changed. Look at him:

"You talking to me? Call that hunting? Cause I call this a bed..."

Might as well break it to you guys. The adventure is over, Joe is safely on his trip back home. Last word was from Chuck de Gaulle, Paris.

It has been predictably dreadfull.

Just got in last night. Took Joe to the airport this morning. Home now, nursing my wounds. Please give me a little time - it is all to freshly edged into my memory...

Must distance and console myself a little before I can relate.

Ready, your artful mastery of the english language and the subtle undertones of sarcasm refresh my palate of language. dear man, do continue to regale us of your adventures with the "bald guy" I mean folically challenged. An essay perhaps, filled with illustrations would be most appreciated.

Well done you two, can't wait for the details!!

Robster,

thank you for your kind words. As Joe is found of saying, I am able to adulterate more than one language...

Charles,

we had a very good time.

To all, that have been follwing my drivel here - thank you very much for your interest. My friend Joe started a thread taking this further with clipping about our hunt together. I think it best to continue there:

East meets West Take 6

Always one to charge into the middle of things, Joe has omitted mode of locomotion:
