Goes well with my Menefee Boner. It's a design we discussed, though mostly his 'idea' based on my vague description.

I'm thinking this should remove some meat from the bone rather quickly this fall.

Not many knives in A2, though I'm not sure why. I cut the dog with the shadow of the blade. The sheath is a very neat design too.

I've a few with that sheath design. It works very well.

That is a delicious design for the blade, too. Well done.

Scott;
Thanks for sharing the photos and I'm hoping this finds you folks well.

As noted, the design is eminently practical and would absolutely be at home in a pack in this part of the world. cool

All the best to you folks for the remainder of the summer Scott.

Air hardening tool steel #2. From dead soft bring up to around 1750F and let it quench in air instead of oil, water, or salt.

Also a general purpose tool steel that is most commonly used in a variety of air-hardening steel. It is commonly used for blanking and forming punches, trimming dies, thread rolling dies, and injection molding dies.

I was gonna volunteer that cinnamon & butter...

...but anyway, nice knife. smile

A2 is an air hardening tool steel, like others said. It will harden in air with minimal distortion, and is moderate in cost. Chris Reeve made some of his large knives with it, for a few years...

That really is a great knife.

That one looks exceptionally good. What is the blade length on that particular one...? Looks longer than the 4" that Rick mentioned on the other thread. And what kind of micarta is that butterscotch, is it paper or linen or what...? Is the tang tapered, and does it have liners...? That's a very nice cuttin' iron. Congratulations on a really goodun'...!

Danny it tapered both direction to .008. Butterscotch I jigged in the Remington pattern. Layton made the sheath from horse hide. A-2 is cutting stuff one of the few carbon steel's that air harden. I use forced air along with aluminum quench plates. Multiple cryo and temper cycles make for a stress free cutting tool that sharpens easy. Rc @ 61

Asking Steelhead the length of his boner is quite a personal question.

Anyway, I never thought I'd say this, but he does have a nice-looking boner.

The actual cutting length is just s smidgen over 4".
From the edge of the scale to the tip of the knife is 4 1/2".

I'm pretty sure Rick covered the rest of it.
